The Miners were eliminated from the President’s Day Tournament in a back and forth loss to state rival Littleton Sunday morning. Littleton finished the first period ahead by two before Austin Storm and Dylan Kaufman tied the game up at the midway point. Storm would net his second of the night at the end of the second (on an assist from Taylor Hill) after the Selects gave up two goals within 15 seconds. Late in the third, down again by two goals, the Selects would catch a break when a five minute major penalty was assessed to Littleton. Quickly the Miners capitalized when Reed Grignano fired a bullet into the back of the net off a feed from Logan Haverstrom. Their luck would run out however before the 5 minute major penalty expired. With a two man advantage and their sights set on tying the game, a crucial turnover in the offensive zone would lead to a short-handed goal for Littleton, and an end to the tournament. The Miners would finish tied with Calgary and Arvada. A tournament tie-breaking decision was made based only on common games between the three tied teams. Pikes Peak would finish at the bottom of the tie-breaker, eliminating them from the consolation game.
